Bretagne was the last surviving Search and Rescue Dog from 911. She was from Texas Task Force 1 and worked the pile at the WTC. Despite the pressure and working 12-hour shifts, Brit found ways to help even when she was on breaks. When she wasn’t working, she would find firefighters to sit with. Her handler Denise Corliss described her behavior as “deliberate,” seeking out those who needed her most. Brit provided comfort to those working in unimaginable circumstances, acting not only as a SAR dog but a therapy dog to the people working at Ground Zero.
